About Saku

“Saku” - to laugh, to smile, to bloom, to blossom.

Our Mission

Saku Bujinkan is a martial arts community based upon friendship and self-development, with the ultimate purpose of supporting one another in becoming the best version of ourselves through martial arts.

We focus on concepts to develop an awareness in body, mind, and spirit that brings about perseverance, compassion, humility, consistency, discipline, and true grit.

Like many martial arts, the Bujinkan has its roots in Buddhism. Saku’s main instructor, Kona Santana, has been a Buddhist for 30 years and finds the insights gleaned from both martial arts practice and Buddhist practice help us develop a non-egotistical approach to life. It also helps us to realize that by becoming ‘zero’ we are able to become limitless and unbounded by whatever may arise on our life journey.

“There are three kinds of Budoka: ones that try to look strong, ones that try to perfect their technique, and ones that try to gain a good heart.”
